About us
Webium.com is the work of Savas Savvides.
Savas was born and raised in Cyprus. After serving in the special forces of the Cyprus army, at the age of 19 he moved to the US to attend college.
Savas holds a B.A. and M.Sc. in Computer Science from Columbia University in New York City.
During the early college years, Savas worked many jobs such as restaurants, pizza shops, gasoline stations, custodian at a church, and many others.
Later on, he worked as a teacher at a New York City afternoon school, running the computer lab.
After college, he worked for an econometrics firm and two major Wall Street banks.
At some point he established his own company, in Seattle, WA, selling stock market historical analysis programs and data (see StockWiz.com).
Around the year 2000 or so, and after 20 years in the US, Savas returned to Cyprus, and eager to help, he set up Webium Incubator Ltd.
After a whole year of planning and applications, he secured funding from the Bank of Cyprus Ventures and got approved for the equivalent of a 5 million dollars subsidy by the government of Cyprus. Then Donald Trump came to Cyprus and convinced the government that they should fund him to organize a beauty pageant in Cyprus. And so, the money that was approved and allocated for Savas's business incubator, was redirected to Donald Trump (yes, that Trump, the future #45 US President) and as a result the incubator never received any funding. Nevertheless, over the years, Savas advised many startups and individuals for free.
Currently, Savas splits his time between Seattle (where his wife is a medical oncologist), his horse farm in Cyprus, and his summer home in Greece. When in Cyprus, he keeps busy with organic farming. In Cyprus he also owns a small bakery where the store sells his mother's very traditional Cypriot bread. For the benefit of all Cypriots, he has established the Cyprus Forum, where ideas are discussed on how to make Cyprus a better place.
In general, Savas is constantly thinking about smart ways to make the world a better place. The Webium social network (at Webium.com) is one of those. Other ideas are available at savvides.com.
